This is not just a request to shoot anyone in the back (although it has crossed my mind in a match) but an honest thought about balancing the flow of fire fights.
At present the rush for a tactical objective can produce a great combat situation with either side making advances only to be countered and fall back. This kind of back-and-forth is what we live for on the front lines. We all want to push forward, breach enemy lines, and push our foes back. What i fear is that we don't fight as smart as we should. We shouldn't' fear death because of our clones, but we also shouldn't fight stupidly because we can't "die". Being mindful of your team and squad mates would promote greater battlefield awareness.
In addition to gunfire I think there are gameplay issues when a precision strike leaves the calling team completely unscathed when hell is raining down right on top of themselves. I can only imagine that battles would play out differently when the side calling in a strike needs to evac a target to survive, yet stay close enough to rush back in and reclaim the spoils. Too many times in Domination (on either side) where a strike is called in on "A" just to end the firefight that's going on.
Give the mercs a reason to play smart, use strikes on armored targets or rush in following a well timed barrage. |

abarkrishna wrote:It is coming in Faction warfare soon. It's a better idea to leave friendly fire off in pub matches. The way i see it is a bunch of noobs will get teamkilled in FW and go back to pubs leaving FW to the Players who actually do something. This should be a more advanced game, not just a run-and-gun. Whole reason I've turned off my Ambush.
I think the bulk of us are looking for greater depth to our play experience and growth for the DUST community. Let the noobs shoot each other...I won't. Might turn a SR on the logi that was punching me in the back of my head tho... |

Frankly it's because it didn't come up when I searched "Friendly Fire".
I attempted to look first before posting. I don't make a habit of blindly running into things |

abarkrishna wrote:Have you even played FW? It's way more tactics based. Especially since its all dual squads and faction specific corps. It's never run and gun and if it is it is because of noobs. That's why when friendly fire gets turned on it will be even better. Let the scrubs play Pub matches without friendly fire. I am perfectly happy playing FW and training my squads until it gets turned on.
If they turn friendly fire on in pub matches there will be nothing stopping these scrubs from coming into FW and ******* **** up.
And if you really want in depth play PC. Other than it being a laggy pile of **** the premise is great. And it already has friendly fire.
I migrated primarily to FW long ago, and I appreciate the direction.
I just think DUST should be a little more focused on hardcore gameplay (as they announced at EVE Vegas 2013) like players have said they want. I can bet you none of the causal noobs ever tried EVE and that has a much worse learning curve and is unforgiving. I fell the attempt at making a game accessible to everyone is past, and might be detrimental in the long run.
I know the growth of DUST will be a long one, and i'm looking forward to it. These are just growing pains... annoying, butt they'll pass. |
